The Manitoba Islamic Association is hosing an important discussion on Islamophobia, featuring guest speaker Mr. Arsalan Iftikhar.

Arsalan graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999 and received his law doctorate from Washington University School of Law in 2003. A native of Chicago, he specializes in international human rights law and is licensed to practice law in Washington DC.

Arsalan is also a global media commentator and the founder of TheMuslimGuy.com, and a regular weekly legal affairs/political commentator for the National Public Radio (NPR) show Tell Me More with Michel Martin.  He is a contributing writer for CNN.com and Esquire Magazine (Middle East edition).

In 2013, Iftikhar won the 2013 Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. And in May of 2011, Iftikhar was chosen as one of the top 12 Muslim Twitter accounts by The Huffington Post.

This event will be an insightful interview style discussion that will explore the topic of anti-Muslim sentiment in the 21st century, with particular focus on North America. The audience will be given the chance to pose questions of their own to Iftikhar and will have the opportunity to have their copies of Iftikhar’s book, SCAPEGOATS: How Islamophobia Helps Our Enemies & Threatens Our Freedoms, signed by him.
