Age Friendly Community Development : Ward Priorities

Age Friendly Community Development

Winnipeg is part of a global movement to create an “age-friendly” community.  Age-friendly cities offer enhanced opportunities for citizens of all ages to enjoy healthy, active lives with the security, social participation and community support that faciliate a high quality of life. In practical terms, an age-friendly city adapts its structures and services to be accessible to and inclusive of older people with varying needs and capabilities.

The Mayor’s Age Friendly Advisory Committee is holding a series of community consultations to move forward on specific age-friendly initiatives. In the South Winnipeg–St. Norbert ward, I will be working closely with the Mayor’s Advisory Committee as well as Pembina Active Living 55+ (PAL). PAL 55+ is a dynamic group of great folks working to enhance the quality of life for older adults in south Winnipeg.

Please take a moment to watch this great video explaining the importance of Manitoba’s and Winnipeg’s efforts in moving towards more age-friendly communities.
