Sustainability at Brady Road Resource Management Facility
Once upon a time, the “City dump”or Brady Road Landfill as it was formerly known, was far, far away from any urban development. This landfill opened in 1973 and was created to serve Winnipeg for the next 100-150 years. Today, the Brady Road Resource Management Facility (renamed in 2013) is licensed by Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship (in 2014) and borders the community of South Pointe, one of the fastest growing residential neighbourhoods in Winnipeg. The facility is located in the South Winnipeg – St. Norbert Ward, and is very much a part of our daily lives.
A Community Liaison Committee was established as part of the requirements for the new Environmental License issued by the Province. I will be working closely with the Water and Waste Department and the Committee to ensure residents are aware of the many activities occurring at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility. This facility will be in the shadows of our community for at least the next 100+ years, and it is important we are aware of the many ways the City is working to reduce the impact of landfill activities (i.e. landscaping, noise and odour control, construction, etc) on our community and local environment.
