I hope everyone is doing well in these very uncertain and constantly changing times. Every day there are new developments within the City, Province, Canada and the world! It makes it difficult to keep up with the most accurate information. Please know the pandemic is NOT over. Life is NOT going to return to normal for a long time yet. The one thing we do know is constant is the need to ensure everyone adheres to physical distancing. COVID-19 is highly contagious and we want to ensure we don’t overload the healthcare system. Please know my office is open daily, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm and we are here to assist.

1. Gradual Opening of City Services
|
The City of Winnipeg is announcing the gradual opening of some City services, in response to the Province of Manitoba’s Restoring Safe Services plan. The pandemic is not over, and we all will have to be extremely respectful in adhering to physical distancing. I’ve included some of my concerns related to the opening. Please SEE Gradual Opening

2. Please Slow Down
|
More people are walking and biking on our streets because of the impacts of COVID-19 and the need to physical distance. Vehicles must slow down on residential streets to ensure safety for pedestrians and cyclists. There has been extensive media coverage on this topic. For more information SEE: Please Slow Down

3. Spring Clean Up
|
Over the next 5-6 weeks the City is conducting its annual spring clean-up of streets, pathways, parks, boulevards and more! To find out when your street will be cleaned, and what YOU can do to help in the clean-up, please SEE: Spring Clean Up

4. Reduced Transit Service
|
Due to COVID-19, transit service has been reduced to an enhanced Saturday schedule. ALSO in South Winnipeg, the new high frequency transit service has been reduced. There will be a fine balancing act required as the economy re-opens and people need to access transit, yet physically distance. For details SEE: Reduced Transit Service

5. Physical Distancing Education & Enforcement
|
As the economy re-opens, physical distancing will remain critical. The City of Winnipeg has Community Service Ambassadors patrolling City parks and open spaces to help people understand the importance of physical distancing. 6. City Finances – COVID-19
|
The City of Winnipeg is experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. City economists and financial experts are monitoring the financial situation closely. For additional details SEE: City Finances

7. Drug Paraphernalia in Parks
|
We have been extremely fortunate and have had few situations where residents have found drug paraphernalia in our Waverley West parks and open spaces. IF you or your children find needles or drugs, please contact 311 or my office, and we will deal with immediately.
