Welcome to my December 2022 newsletter! Due to election rules, I was unable to send a newsletter during the election period. Much gratitude to my opponent for putting his name on the ballot. I really appreciated the opportunity to be actively engaged in the democratic process of this election. Sincere congratulations to Winnipeg’s new Mayor, Scott Gillingham, and to all who were elected to serve on Council. We now have a Mayor who is a real team player and who will work with all members of Council to tackle the many challenges and opportunities in running a city. I look forward to continue serving the residents of Waverley West. Thank you for all your support in allowing me this opportunity and re-electing me as your City Councillor. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me: JLukes@winnipeg.ca

South Winnipeg Recreation Campus Update
The City and community are now engaged in conversations on the first phase of the new recreation centre. This is a regional recreation facility being built to service upwards of 120,000 people in south Winnipeg and will be developed in phases. I’d like to thank MLA Jon Reyes for organizing a tour of new recreation facilities in the towns of Niverville and Winkler. I’ve pulled a highlight summary together: SEE: Recreation Update

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
I’ve received many calls and email from residents, and folks throughout the city expressing their sadness, and thoughts on the most recent losses of the lives Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, Rebecca Contois, Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe, and Kayla Rae. Incredible losses, unspeakable pain. What can you do, how can we help? SEE: Honouring the Truth through Education and Awareness

Changes to the Snow Route Parking Ban
Last winter Winnipeg received the most snow on record. We discovered many residents park their vehicles for long periods of time on city streets, preventing a thorough street cleaning. Changes have been made to the snow route parking ban that will affect people who park vehicles on the streets for endless periods of time. SEE: Snow Route Ban
