Hello All!*

Spring is just around the corner, the days are longer and it's always busy at City Hall! Here is an update on some key activities in the South Winnipeg – St. Norbert Ward.

PLEASE NOTE: This month, I will be preparing an additional newsletter highlighting how the budget impacts residents in the South Winnipeg-St. Norbert Ward.

1. 2016 Capital & Operating Budget

The City of Winnipeg’s 2016 Budget will be tabled on Wednesday, March 4.  Residents can register to speak to the budget; for details on the process,  SEE HERE

Media will be providing extensive City-wide budget coverage. In addition, on March 7, I will prepare and post an overview on my website regarding how the budget directly impacts the South Winnipeg-St. Norbert Ward (roadwork, parks, etc.).

2. Residential Waste: Recycling & Composting

There’s been a lot of discussion at City Hall on the waste we generate in our homes. Recently, the new Brady 4R Recycling Depot opened to accept 17 streams of recyclables SEE HERE

In the coming weeks, I expect there will be announcements regarding upcoming community consultations on composting. Please read my organic composting overview, and know I will be consulting with residents in order to make an informed decision.  No decisions have been or will be made until all the facts are presented to City Council.

3.  311 and Reporting By-Law Infractions

I would like to STRESS the importance of contacting 311 to report potential by-law infractions. Enforcement is allocated based on high levels of service requests.  If you report a by-law infraction, all information is confidential and enforcement officers will investigate ... but you must report it!  SEE HERE

Residents in the areas of University Heights and Fort Richmond are planning to conduct a 2016 spring inventory - street by street  - of probable illegal rental houses to enable stronger enforcement of City by-laws. Watch for more details soon.

4. A Request For YOUR Help!

Planning is underway for the development of a South Winnipeg Recreation Complex. South Winnipeg is growing rapidly and has a severe shortage of recreation facilities.  This exciting, new initiative will have to be supported financially by all levels of government.  To understand how YOU can help, please SEE HERE.

5.  Spring Registration at Community Centres

We have three very active community centres in South Winnipeg - Dakota, St. Norbert, and South Winnipeg (Waverley Heights and Richmond Kings).  Each Centre produces an informative spring newsletter highlighting their activities, and supporting sponsors. To register for spring classes, or to learn more about what is occurring at your local community centre, SEE HERE.
