Dear Friends!*

Welcome to the launch of my first E-Newsletter as City Councillor for the St. Norbert Ward!  My goal is to send out a monthly E-Newsletter to help you stay informed about local and City news. These E-Newsletters will contain highlights about community meetings, local projects, events and more. Full details are at www.JaniceLukes.ca

1. Communication:  Website, Twitter, Facebook, E-Newsletter, Articles

One of my top campaign promises was to improve communication with residents of the St. Norbert Ward.  Our ward has the second largest population in Winnipeg, with 53,444 residents living in 12 unique residential communities – and I must say, figuring out how to communicate effectively has been one of my biggest challenge these past six months! City funding allows me to hire one Ward Assistant. To keep you informed of Ward activities, we have developed an informative website www.JaniceLukes.ca; post regularly to Twitter(@JaniceLukes) and Facebook (CouncillorJaniceLukes); and write a monthly article for The Sou’Wester and Lance community newspapers. To contact me, please phone or E-mail:  Janice Lukes

2. YOUR INVITATION:  Transportation & Parks Open House on Tuesday, May 5

Want to see improvements to our parks? Want to offer suggestions on transportation improvements for streets and sidewalks in our community? Stop by the new Pinnacle Club at the Investors Group Field Stadium, and talk to the experts who plan our streets and parks.  I have invited City of Winnipeg Public Works Department transportation engineers and park planners to attend the May 5th event and share information on transportation and park improvements that are currently underway in our community, and to listen to your ideas for continued improvement.  For details, visit Upcoming Events.

3. Update on Rental Housing In/Around U of M

Over 200 residents of University Heights and Fort Richmond attended a recent Community Conversation to learn more about the challenges and opportunities associated with rental housing in and around the University of Manitoba. For details, refer to the summary and get an update on subsequent activities at Rental Housing.

4. Ward Priorities

During the 2014 election campaign, residents clearly told me the challenges and opportunities for the St. Norbert Ward. This feedback was invaluable in helping me understand and set priorities for my term as your Councillor. St. Norbert is a large ward and to be effective, I must focus on priorities. For details, please see my Ward Priorities.

5. Street Cleaning, Sewer Upgrades and Road Construction in 2015

We’ve worked hard and smart to develop a website that will be updated regularly, so that you can stay informed on activities in the St. Norbert Ward. I encourage you to check www.JaniceLukes.ca often!  Street cleaning is underway, sewer upgrades on various streets are starting, and summer is the beginning of road construction season!  For details, please visit Summer Construction.

6. My First Six Months - A Personal Perspective

In closing, I’ve penned a short summary of my first six months as St.Norbert Ward Councillor.  It is a tremendous honour and privilege to have this opportunity, and I will do my utmost to serve the area well. With seven new City Councillors, a new Mayor, and a series of momentous events that unfolded in the first six months after being elected, times at City Hall have been interesting indeed!  For details, visit My First Six Months.

Go Jets Go!

I remember when the Winnipeg Jets were in their last play-offs, and am absolutely thrilled to see them back where they belong!  My family and I will be cheering them on from our living room sofa!
