Dear Friends!*

Thank you for taking the time to read my E-Newsletter! The newsletter contains pertinent information for the South Winnipeg – St. Norbert ward.  Full details are at JaniceLukes.ca

1. FIFA Fever, Traffic & Parking

There are a total of 7 FIFA Women's World Cup Canada games scheduled at Investors Group Field, starting on Monday, June 8!  Probably the most important thing to understand is that FIFA games start earlier than any Blue Bombers game.  Traffic patterns WILL BE DIFFERENT; please anticipate rush hour traffic delays.  The Event Day parking plan is in effect for all games.  For details, visit Investors Group Field on my website.

2. YOUR Feedback on Upgrades in Kirkbridge Park and King's Park

In June, I will be hosting holding two separate open houses to gather more feedback on improvements which the community would like to see at Kirkbridge Park (June 10) and King's Park (June 17).  I have already received some very good feedback, and want to keep this ball rollling!  For details, visit Parks in my ward priorities.

3.  Is the Schubert Chokecherry on your Boulevard Scheduled for Removal & Replacement?

In 2015, over 100 diseased boulevard trees are being removed in the South Winnipeg–St. Norbert Ward.  Is your boulevard tree on the schedule? Learn more, and view the City Forester’s presentation on the challenges faced by Winnipeg's urban forest.  Visit Schubert Chokecherry removal and replacement.

4. New Update on Rental Housing Challenges

Mark your calendar for the dates of June 26, when the City’s report on rental housing best practices is released as well as September 30, when I will host another group community meeting to discuss new developments in addressing this complex issue. For details, visit Rental Housing in my ward priorities.

5. Living with Bugs, Mowing, Dandelions & More

These are hot topics as the weather warms up and things begin to hatch, sprout and grow!  To understand City services related to bugs, mowing, herbicides and insecticides, visit Parks in my ward priorities.

6. Transit Park & Ride Required for South Winnipeg

There's new details on how Rapid Transit Stage 2 will link with the U of M!  Both residents and I are concerned that there is no Park & Ride located at the end/termination point of the Southwest Transitway to support the needs of South Winnipeggers. This is very important for our community and the success of Rapid Transit.  For details, visit Transit in ward priorities.

7.  Celebrating, Meeting and Supporting our Local Businesses!

The businesses along Pembina Highway provide us with so many necessary goods and services. Recently, I invited the owners to a luncheon to meet, learn and understand how I, as the area's City Councillor, can provide support in meeting some of the challenges they encounter dealing with the City. We had a great turnout and interesting lunch! See details in Economic Development opportunities.
