Three huge road / overpass renewal projects will be starting in South Winnipeg in spring 2025. The Pembina Highway Overpass will be rehabilitated, off ramps will change, and significant improvements to bike paths and sidewalks will occur. This will be a two year project – and yes, will cause a lot of traffic challenges – but is very needed. This rehabilitation is occurring to:
- To increase the lifespan of the bridge, roads, and ramps.
- To improve traffic flow and safety
- To improve access to Transit in the project area.
- To close gaps in the pedestrian and cycling network.
During rehabilitation and related works, the city will:
Maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction of Pembina Highway and one southbound left turn to University Crescent at all times.
- Work only on southbound lanes in 2025
- Work only on northbound lanes in 2026
- Remove all lane closures through the winter, including the Grey Cup
PLEASE NOTE: There will be two other major street renewal projects occurring in the south end that will continue until 2025:
University Crescent Street Renewal Project will include:
- Land drainage sewer installation from Sifton Road to Thatcher Drive in 2024.
- Reconstruction of the northbound roadway from Sifton Road to Thatcher Drive in 2025.
- Reconstruction of the southbound roadway from Sifton Road to Markham Road in 2025.
The Abinojii Mikanah Street Renewal Project will involve:
- Roadworks from River Road to St. Anne’s Road.
- Construction of eastbound roadway construction in 2024.
- Construction of the Intersections and westbound roadway in 2025.
Up-to-date information about project progress and other construction-related topics will be posted on this webpage Pembina Highway Overpass at Abinojii Mikanah If you have questions or comments regarding the project, please reach out to Sanjana Mada at smada@scatliff.ca, or 204-927-3444
