Abinojii Mikanah and Waverley Street Intersection Upgrades
While I’ve been very busy attending many community outreach events, I’m also working on many ward issues related to transportation, housing, recreation and safety. I’ll be providing some updates on many of these initiatives over the coming weeks.
I called for an indepth study of the Abinojii Mikanah and Waverley Street intersection to look at safety improvements to handle the traffic volumes. The report is a very detailed engineering analysis on the number and types of collisions that occur at this intersection, the delays and safety performance and provides a solution to safety concerns handling increased volumes of traffic.
See Abinojii Mikanah and Waverley Street report.
These would be the improvements that would be incorporated in the planned renewal of Abinojii Mikanah which is expected for 2027.
- Addition of a 90 metre long second eastbound left turn lane
- Extension of the existing single eastbound left turn lane by approximately 60 metres
- Extension of the existing single westbound left turn lane by approximately 60 metres
- Removal of the existing eastbound Cantilever Overhead Sign Structure
- Installation of a new eastbound Bridge Overhead Sign Structure
- Adjustment of land drainage infrastructure
- Adjustment of Signals infrastructure
The Public Service is submitting this information as a Business Case to the 2027 Investment Planning Process to seek funding for a dual eastbound left turn lane and extend the existing eastbound and westbound left turn lanes at the Abinojii Mikanah and Waverley Street intersection in alignment with the planned renewal on Abinojii Mikanah.
