Bridgwater Developments Contribute $117.4M to Revitalize Winnipeg ‘Neighbourhoods in Need’

As of March 31, 2019, residents and commercial entities in the neighbourhoods of Bridgwater Forest, Lakes, Trails and Bridgwater Centre have enabled $117.4 million in investments in housing projects to revitalize Winnipeg neighbourhoods in need.
- No other neighbourhood development in Winnipeg’s history has ever contributed this amount of funding to revitalize Winnipeg neighbourhoods in need
- Contributions to Winnipeg neighbourhoods in need will continue until every piece of land is sold in the Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater
Funding contributions started in 2008 when the first homeowner purchased land in the Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater and as of March 2019, have reached a total of $117.4 million. Many Winnipeggers are unaware of this funding contribution landowners are making to neighbourhoods in need.
The Province of Manitoba’s Housing Development and Rehabilitation Fund, set up by Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation identifies a percentage of funding from land sales by residents and commercial entities in Bridgwater Forest, Lakes, Trails and Bridgwater Centre to be directed to the Housing Development and Rehabilitation Fund.
Funding directed to the Housing Development and Rehabilitation Fund from the Bridgwater Neighbourhood must be spent within the municipality in which Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation realized the profits, in this case, Winnipeg. The fund is used to provide support for housing projects in areas of need, including the development of new housing or the rehabilitation, repair and maintenance of existing housing.
