Re-Envisioning South Winnipeg Community Centre’s Two Sites: Waverley & Richmond

The City of Winnipeg is developing a huge new recreation campus in the Bison Run neighbourhood.  It is an important project, but it cannot serve all Southwest Winnipeg’s recreation and programming needs alone.

• The two existing sites (Waverley & Richmond) that South Winnipeg Community Centre (SWCC) oversees are integral to community, but are in desperate need of modernizations to suit our growing and changing community.

Starting in May 2023, City staff, architects, SWCC executive & board met, analyzed & discussed needs of the community & explored how the existing facilities (Waverley & Richmond sites) could better serve the community!  The team toured other community centres to gather ideas, and met with many leaders in the recreation community.

On September 18^th, the City and SWCC held an open house for the community to view the concept plans on September 18th.  Residents offered comments and suggestions on the proposed concepts.

NEXT STEPS

These upgrades will require funding, and the team at SWCC, myself and Councillor Chambers are now seeking funding avenues.
