Summary: Retail Crime Forum

Thank you to the Winnipeg Police Service for organizing, and hosting an informative discussion on retail crime with the businesses on Pembina Highway and Bridgwater Centre this past week.

We appreciate the invitation for Councillor Markus Chambers and I to attend & provide information. Thanks to the many local business owners who brought their concerns forward in a frank discussion.

Two key discussions revolved around:

1.) WPS’s reactive measures

2.) The need to better understand what is occurring to address the root causes of crime and poverty, specifically in South Winnipeg.

Councillor Chambers and I are now working with Provincial MLA’s to co-host a community discussion – on what both the City and the Province are doing to address root causes of crime in Winnipeg, and specifically South Winnipeg. Watch social media for a date.
