Updates to Transit effective December 14, 2025

Transit has expanded On-Request service to provide rides until 2am Monday to Saturday and 12:45 am Sunday and holidays. For more information on how On Request works – See here.

Specific to the Waverley West ward – they have also added an extra bus in the morning and afternoon for some of the routes that service schools.

Whyte Ridge students will see the addition of another bus both morning and afternoon to Vincent Massey Collegiate on route 649. In the morning there are buses that will arrive at VMC at 8:10 and 8:26. In the afternoon the bus will leave at 3:37 and 3:53.

South Pointe, Prairie Pointe and Bridgwater students will see the addition of another bus both morning and afternoon to Pembina Trails Collegiate and Bison Run School on route 678. Buses will arrive at PTC at 8:09 and 8:23.Return buses will leave PTC at 3:34 and 3:50pm.

Please know transit is taking all this data and are working on refining the system even more. The challenge with transit is – it can’t ‘turn on a dime’.

Transit organizes the shifts of nearly 1100 bus operators at Winnipeg Transit who drive our buses. This includes;

• 680 daily ‘pieces’ of work (i.e. buses leaving the garage)
• Over 5,000 hours of daily service
• Over 100,000 km of daily service
• Every day there are approximately 480 buses on the road at peak times.

Transit changes schedules 4 times per year in what are known as ‘service changes’. Between service changes routes are monitored for performance. With each change, there will always be slight tweaks to improve performance.

• The task of scheduling itself falls into 3 general steps;
• Assessing and recommending changes to current service
• Developing the schedules themselves
• Drivers select their work/prepare for schedule change
