Malala’s Thank You Video to City of Winnipeg Councillors

On Thursday, July 23, 2015, I had the honour of celebrating the naming of Malala Park with the Pakistani community at an event in the beautiful Pakistan Cultural Centre in Winnipeg. Malala Park is located in the South Winnipeg–St. Norbert at the south end of Paddington Road, in a brand new community brimming with young families and children.
Through a partnership with Councillor Brian Mayes, Dost Mughal and Anis Khan (Pakistani Canada Business Association of Winnipeg) and myself, the decision was made to name the park after Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate. The naming of this park honours Malala’s perseverance and her outstanding work towards the education of girls and children throughout the world. The naming also recognizes the Pakistani Canadian contribution to Winnipeg. I also believe it serves as a reminder to us, as Canadians, how very fortunate we are to experience the freedoms we have.
At the celebration on July 23, the evening was highlighted with a personal video from Malala as well as greetings sent from her father. I am so very pleased to have been able to contribute and support this very worthy initiative honouring Malala and the Pakistani community.
