NEXT STEPS Moving Forward – South Winnipeg Recreation Initiative

On November 10, 2015, I was pleased to see the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development approve the Public Service’s recommendations to invest $350,000 towards the planning and conceptual design of the South Winnipeg Recreation Initiative.

  • To read the Public Service report and recommendations, visit:  Regional Campus Implementation Strategy SPC on Property and Development Nov 20, 2015
  • Another document, the Braid Report, provides a solid overview of the current recreation needs in South Winnipeg. The Braid Report engaged key stakeholders in 2013-2014 to understand the desire, need and interest in a larger, campus-style recreational style facility.  Visit:  Regional Campus – Consultation Report
  • Thanks to Craig and Trevor, from the South Winnipeg Community Centre,  for attending and presenting at the November 10th meeting, as well as providing media interviews!  EXCELLENT support and assistance – greatly appreciated!

NEXT STEPS:

The Public Service report and recommendations now must pass through two more committees to reach final approval:

  • Executive Policy Committee (EPC) Meeting – November 18, 2015
    • The report comes forward to EPC where it will be discussed and debated.
    • This meeting will take place at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall, 510 Main Street in the West Committee Room.
    • If you would like to speak in support (or not) of the recommendations, you must register in advance by contacting the City Clerk, Carlos Gameiro:  E-Mail CGameiro@winnipeg.ca or telephone 204-986-6631.
  • City Council Meeting – November 25, 2015
    • If EPC supports the recommendations to invest $350,000 towards the planning and conceptual design of South Winnipeg Recreation Initiative, the report will then move on to City Council to discuss, debate and hopefully approve.
    • This meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall, 510 Main Street in the Council Chamber.
    • If you would like to speak in support (or not) of the recommendations, you must register in advance by contacting the City Clerk, Carlos Gameiro:  E-Mail CGameiro@winnipeg.ca or telephone 204-986-6631.
