Significant Step Forward Towards Development of South Winnipeg Recreation Campus

Today the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development approved expropriation of ~20 acres of land in Waverley West. The land is to be acquired to enable development of the South Winnipeg Recreation Campus. Final approval of the expropriation is anticipated to occur at the February Council meeting.
For specific details: See Expropriation of Lands – 262 Cadboro Road – South Winnipeg Recreation Campus Report

This land being expropriated is located beside ~ 25 acres of land owned by the Pembina Trails School Division and is for the construction of an elementary and high school.

Recall ~$11M  was approved in the 2018 Capital Budget towards construction of the South Winnipeg Campus. These are huge steps forward, in what continues to be a long and winding journey – BUT – we’ve made more progress on this project in the last three years,  than we have over the last 10 years!  We have an excellent team of committed community leaders guiding and advising. I fully expect we will have more great news to share in the coming months! For a history of the project since I started working on it, see South Winnipeg Recreation Campus
