Residential Street Plow – Know Your Zone

Plowing of residential streets will begin Wednesday morning to improve the condition of residential streets. As a result, a Residential Parking Ban has been declared and will be in effect starting Wednesday, January 9 at 7 a.m.

How The Plowing Schedule Is Determined

I asked the Director of Streets and Maintenance (responsible for snow removal) – why the Waverley West ward – which is on the outskirts and receives much blowing snow – is cleared later in the week.  His response:

“The residential snow plow schedule is determined by an internal application which determines the schedule for us (picks the scenario) based on the day of the week and shift (in this case Wednesday at 7am) we decide to start the plow in order to reduce conflicts with garbage & recycling collection plan while balancing the amount of inventory to be cleared during all 5 x 12hr shifts. I think it will be very hard to take into account other variables at this point (it is complicated as it is). BUT spot plowing is occurring – contact 311 (”

Avoid A Ticket And Tow

  • For the residential streets that are scheduled, residents are urged to find an alternate place to park such as an off-street driveway or parking lot, or a nearby street that is not currently scheduled for plowing. This will help the plowing operation run smoothly and will prevent you from being ticketed and towed.
  • Vehicles parked in violation of the Residential Parking Ban may receive a $150 ticket ($112.50 if paid early), and may be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be plowed, or has already been cleared. If you believe your vehicle may have been towed due to the Residential Parking Ban, please contact 311 for assistance in locating it.
