You are invited to discuss crime in South Winnipeg Councillor Lukes and members of the Winnipeg Police Service. We will have a short presentation on what Councillor Lukes and Chambers are doing to address the root causes of crime from a City perspective. The Winnipeg Police Service will present an update on their work. Representatives from the Winnipeg Crime Stoppers organization will be in attendance also See: Winnipeg Crime Stoppers Following presentations, we will open the floor to questions.

It is important to note that property crimes are prevalent in South Winnipeg and while violent crimes are present, there are far fewer. The focus for criminals is on property and on vehicle theft!

I encourage you to view the Winnipeg Police Service Crime and Calls for Service Maps where you can really drill into neighbourhoods and types of crimes.

There were over 770,000 calls to the WPS Communications Centre in 2024, an average of over 2,000 calls every day.  Of course there are a lot of reasons for crime – poverty, drugs and mental health issues being root causes.

We will be discussing these and other issues at the crime discussion.
