Lots on the Horizon in South Winnipeg-St. Norbert Ward

A huge thank-you to so many residents of the South Winnipeg-St. Norbert ward for volunteering their valuable time to make our community a better place to live, work and play.
Residents in the neighbourhoods of Bridgwater, Richmond West, and Dakota Park held huge spring cleanups. Girl Guides and Pathfinders are volunteering at community events, residents are helping the city identify streets and sidewalks that still require sweeping and, of course, many parents are volunteering to help keep our kids active and healthy with spring sporting activities.
These are just a few of the many initiatives residents are participating in to strengthen our neighbourhoods. And more activities are occurring. A complete list of upcoming community events can be found on my website www.JaniceLukes.ca
May 31: Community update on rental properties: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Pinnacle Club at Investors Group Field. Residents have formed the Fort Richmond and University Heights Neighbourhood Association and have been working over the winter developing new resources and tools to improve community safety and neighbourhood livability. Come out to this event to learn about new tools, bylaw changes and new resources available to educate homeowners, tenants and landlords on important rental and neighbourhood livability issues.
June 11: Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater community garage sale, starting first thing in the morning. Lots of treasures being put out for sale in Bridgwater Forest, Lakes and Trails. I think this will be a doozy of a community garage sale. If you go, please park sensibly and ensure driveways and emergency accesses are kept open.
June 13: New recreation complex update at 6:30 p.m. at the South Winnipeg Community Centre annual general meeting being held in the Waverley Heights Community Centre, 1885 Chancellor Dr. We have an outstanding board of community leaders who are volunteering not only to provide a wide range of sporting activities for our children, but who are also volunteering their time to help plan the development of a much-needed new recreational complex. An update on the project will be provided at the annual general meeting.
June 18: Family fun, food trucks and frolicking in the fountains, starting at 11 a.m. at the Bridgwater Lakes Fountain. Meet your neighbours, let the kids run wild, play games and enjoy delectable foods from some of the finest food trucks in town. Organized by the Bridgwater Lakes Neighbourhood
Association.
July 1: Canada Day! No need to leave the south end. There are four community celebrations being planned throughout the South Winnipeg–St. Norbert ward. Watch www.JaniceLukes.ca for details and I look forward to seeing you at these great community events.
