Parking of Trailers, RVs, Boats & Snowmobiles

Like all municipalities, the City of Winnipeg has zoning by-laws. Some Winnipeggers may not be aware of Zoning By-Law No. 200/2006 which applies to all areas of the city that are outside of the Downtown Winnipeg boundaries.
By-Law 200/2006 regulates a wide range of issues including the parking of travel trailers, motor homes and recreational vehicles (RVs) on private property. The by-law defines RVs as any vehicle designed for recreational purposes, including but not restricted to a boat, power toboggan (snowmobile), and trailer designed specifically for the transport of a recreational vehicle.
At this time of year, it’s timely to provide a reminder about parking these types of vehicles on private property so that residents can make alternate arrangements for storage:
- Between May 15 and October 31, a maximum of ONE recreational vehicle, travel trailer or motor home may be parked on a driveway in the front yard leading to a parking space in the principal building or in a side/rear yard.
- From November 1 to May 14, the above types of vehicles can NOT be legally parked in these areas. Individuals who are not in compliance are subject to fines up to $1,000.
