Retention Pond Update – April 25

I’m ‘dating’ the retention pond updates as it appears the water is here to stay for a while – and more might be coming.
I’ve been checking in daily with the CAO – person who oversees all departments and staff – top guy – who communicates with Water and Waste Department every hour! He assures me the retention ponds ARE working – there is no blockage or frozen pipes anywhere. There is just a lot of water flowing into the ponds.
To better understand how the ponds work – see an update I provided in 2019 – when the ponds were full then! All the ponds are interconnected with underground pipes and either drain into the Red River in St Norbert – or they drain into the drainage ditch that runs parallel to Bishop Grandin. They will drain eventually.
PROTECTING YOUR HOME:
I know the water is rising – whether it will continue to rise or not is the million dollar question. Please do what it takes to protect your home – I know some residents have picked up sandbags. ALL locations are open 24 hours for sandbag pick up:
- 1539 Waverley St. (Visitor parking lot, next to recycling bins)
- 1090 Thomas Ave. (Entrance approach)
- 1220 Pacific Ave. (East approach)
SEE how to sandbag properly, so they do protect your property – it’s not hard, but there is a bit of a science to it – there’s even videos on how to sandbag.
