Retention Ponds Update

Water is rising on all 40+ retention ponds in the Waverley West ward – older style ponds in Waverley Heights, Richmond West ND newer naturalized ponds in Bridgwaters, Prairie Pointe and South Pointe. All ponds are rising.

Future precipitation and its impact on ponds is difficult to predict, but Water & Waste Department believes ponds will be able to handle.

If residents want, sandbags are available at 1395 Waverley ~ City yards.

City has extra crews on – extra 311- but the extreme weather event is overloading all aspects.

NOTE from City staff:

  • “We have sandbags for residents to pick up from our City yards to protect their homes. Learn more here.”
  • “Steaming crews are out melting frozen catch basins to improve drainage. Spot a street with standing water? Report in using this online form.”
  • “Backwater valves and sump pit drainage systems help prevent basement flooding. Have you checked to make sure yours are working? Learn more about how to maintain your sump pit drainage system here.”

I’m monitoring Facebook & emails to be of assistance.
