SEE REPORT: City Naturalist’s Assessment of Bridgwater Forest

City Staff will be discussing this report and we will develop a plan of action to begin a longterm care plan for Bridgwater Forest.

Background: On June 27th, 2017, I held an Information Evening on the Health of Bridgwater Forest for area residents. City Naturalist, Rodney Penner, and South Winnipeg Parks Supervisor, Kyle Lucyk, were in attendance to provide expert insight on some of the challenges the forest is facing. In Bridgwater Forest, three main issues have been identified to be causing stress:

  1. Poorly designed area drainage
  2. Excessive sump pump run off
  3. Dumping of organics

Residents in attendance and myself asked City staff to conduct an assessment of the health of the forest and report back to the community. With the report is now complete, we will work with the community and City Naturalist’s Branch to develop a long term action plan to care for the trees and vegetation in Bridgwater Forest. I look forward to seeing all nature lovers and tree huggers!
